We recommend Backup & Recovery, written by W. Curtis Preston, published by OReilly & Associates. It's a 750 page book that borrows about 200 pages from Unix Backup & Recovery. It's a completely new book that now includes bare metal recovery of Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS. It also covers Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Exchange, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. The book concentrates on free and/or open source solutions to the problem.

Curtis says: "Now that this book is done, I plan to start right away on my next book, which will cover the more commercial world of data protection."
