How do I backup through a firewall?

The answer that was here was very old. We need an updated answer for versions 4.5, 5.1, and 6.0. There's been a lot of work in this area. Suffice it to say you should read the administrator's guide for your version.

Just for posterity's sake, here's an example configuration:

Client's bp.conf includes the following:

ALLOW_NON_RESERVED_PORTS

CLIENT_PORT_WINDOW = 13740 13750

RANDOM_PORTS = NO

master server's bp.conf includes the following:

ALLOW_NON_RESERVED_PORTS

SERVER_PORT_WINDOW = 13740 13750

RANDOM_PORTS = NO

Ports that need to be open on the firewall: TCP on port 13782, 13720 & 13740 through 13750
