I'm trying to get BackupPC 1.5 working on one of my Debian (woody)
boxes.

It's become very frustrating to say the least. sad smiley

In summary, I've got the software installed, CGI interface is up and
working, the software appears to be running, but it's not ever doing a
backup.

It's can't ever ping the host requested.

For example, I have my laptop setup as greglaptop (original, huh?).
It's located at 192.168.10.148, and is online.

nmblookup from the backup server box returns the following:

$ nmblookup -A 192.168.10.148
Looking up status of 192.168.10.148
GREGLAPTOP <00> - H <ACTIVE>
GREGLAPTOP <03> - H <ACTIVE>
GREGLAPTOP <20> - H <ACTIVE>
DOMAIN <00> - <GROUP> H <ACTIVE>
DOMAIN <1e> - <GROUP> H <ACTIVE>

$ nmblookup greglaptop
querying greglaptop on 192.168.10.255
192.168.10.148 greglaptop<00>

I've even set it up as a DNS name, using a static IP, and changing the
entry in the hosts file to reflect a static IP.

The CGI reports:

* Last status is state "idle" (no ping) as of 8/16 11:42.
* Pings to greglaptop have failed 23 consecutive times.

Any ideas on why this is occurring, and/or how I can enable additional
debugging?

Thanks,

Greg Nicholson

Try changing $Conf{PingArgs} from

$Conf{PingArgs} = '-c 1 -w 3 $host';

to

$Conf{PingArgs} = '-c 1 $host';

That appears to have done it. I've got two windows hosts that have
started backing up now.
Most Excellent. I'm going to have to find a Redhat box or something and
find out what the -w switch does now...
Thanks for the quick turnaround, and software!
