If you see this message, it means you need to keep running
"rsnapshot hourly" until there are a full set of hourly backups,
before the rsnapshot daily will do anything.

David,

Thanks! I'll wait and see if rsnapshot daily works as I have it
scheduled at 2:00 am everyday. I'll report my findings later.

What I can't understand is why "rsnapshot -t hourly" showed invocation
of the cmd_preexec script explicitly while "rsnapshot -t daily" (or for
that matter weekly and monthly) doesn't.

Thanks again for your quick reply,
ST

Further information after hourly.1 is created successfully by "rsnapshot
hourly". "rsnapshot daily" does not run successfully.

Here's the test I've just done. The real log showed the same behaviour.

<log>
~/rsnapshot# ls -al /mnt/bkup
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Sep 2 12:59 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Sep 3 11:29 ..

~/rsnapshot# rsnapshot -t daily
echo 11367 > /var/run/rsnapshot.pid
/mnt/bkup/hourly.1 not present (yet), nothing to copy

~/rsnapshot# /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-mount-bkup.sh

~/rsnapshot# ls -al /mnt/bkup
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Feb 21 13:42 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Sep 3 11:29 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 21 08:57 hourly.0
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 20 20:43 hourly.1

~/rsnapshot# rsnapshot -t daily
echo 11372 > /var/run/rsnapshot.pid
mv /mnt/bkup/hourly.1/ /mnt/bkup/daily.0/

~/rsnapshot# /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-umount-bkup.sh

~/rsnapshot# rsnapshot -t daily
echo 11377 > /var/run/rsnapshot.pid
/mnt/bkup/hourly.1 not present (yet), nothing to copy
</log>

I have these options in my rsnapshot.conf

no_create_root 1
cmd_preexec /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-mount-bkup.sh
cmd_postexec /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot-umount-bkup.sh

The conclusion seems to be that "rsnapshot daily" is *not* using the
"cmd_preexec" command at all.

Further search turns up these related debian bug reports (and links
pointing to the rsnapshot bug tracker in sourceforge).
