rsnapshot on Mac OS X complains about cp -al options though
March 14, 2014 05:12PM
Hello,

I used rsnapshot on my GNU/Linux machines for several years. Now I
want to use it on my MacBook with Mac OS X (10.9.2). But
sometimes---not always---rsnapshot exits with status 1 asking
whether my cp does not support -al options. But I installed the GNU
Coreutils and configured rsnapshot accordingly.

$ which gcp
/usr/local/bin/gcp
$ grep gcp /etc/rsnapshot.conf
cmd_cp /usr/local/bin/gcp

rsnapshot fails at the hourly.1 snapshot:

$ sudo rsnapshot -V hourly

rsnapshot encountered an error! The program was invoked with these
options:
/usr/local/bin/rsnapshot -V hourly

ERROR: /usr/local/bin/gcp -al
/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.0
/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.1 failed (result 256, exit
status 1). Perhaps your cp does not support -al options?
ERROR: Error! cp_al("/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.0/",
"/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.1/")
/usr/bin/logger -i -p user.err -t rsnapshot /usr/local/bin/rsnapshot
-V
hourly: ERROR: Error!
cp_al("/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.0/",
"/Volumes/Backup-250-MBP/rsnapshot/hourly.1/")
rm -f /var/run/rsnapshot.pid

I don't know what's going wrong here? Any ideas?

Best
Christoph

I can't offer anything more than a "me too" - and I'm doing this 1 year later than you under Yosemite 10.10.

Did you eventually find a solution?

"shawn - from Lausanne" didn't read http://www.backupcentral.com/phpBB2/two-way-mirrors-of-external-mailing-lists-3/rsnapshot-24/please-read-before-posting-98560/

But that's no excuse for being a potty-mouth.
