Deleting a folder from all backup sets
November 25, 2014 01:05PM
Hi all!

I”m trying to figure out the best way to remove a particular folder from all backup sets.

So I have a backup of a server that contains the folder /home/something/massivespacehog that is no longer required but it’s present in 30 daily and 14 monthly backup sets.

I have deleted the folder from the server that is being backed up but it’s obviously still on the backup server and I don’t want to change my rsnapshot configuration.

Is there a “best practice” way of pruning this folder from all my backup sets?

Thanks,
Chris.

don't know if there's a "best practice" but I think something like this should do the work:

rm -rf /backup-path/daily.{0..29}/home/something/massivespacehog

rm -rf /backup-path/monthly.{0..29}/home/something/massivespacehog

I used that sometimes and it worked.
