What do you suggest, using link-dest with rsync or the plain old "cp -al"?

I'm seeing "cp -al" taking hours (with high load on backup server) for
some hosts.
The same with rsync link-dest doesn't happens but obviously the rsync
phase is longer.

I would never do without syndest and syncfirst, unless you have a very
broke rsync that won't do hardlinks.

So are you suggesting to use the "link-dest" and skip the "cp -al" ?

I'm not really sure exactly what's being suggested here. Are you recommending to set link_dest to 1 and sync_first to 1 in rsnapshot.conf?

I think its probably much faster to use rsync, and it has worked well
for me -- I think I only tried the cp -l briefly.

Could you please share the rsnapshot log ? i would like to double check
the exact steps that rsnapshot does with link-dest, mine seems a bit strange.
