Bacula 7.4.2Ubuntu 14.04 LTSLTO-3 SCSI
Linux RAID

Hello again.
I am trying to get the bacula-changer.sh script to work from http://wiki.bacula.org/doku.php?id=sample_configs - i am still working through the config statements/edits and so far have not got it working with my setup - I am not quite at the point of asking for help, but has/is anyone using/got it working with 7.4.2?

I am still plugging away at it, at the moment the script cannot manage the drive, which i think is down to the way it calla bconsole…

mtx.log:-
Sat Aug 6 17:44:42 BST 2016 : loaded /dev/nst0 0
mtx-changer: tape loaded request on /dev/nst0
MT error, bacula might be using it! Return code: 1
Drive is UNMOUNTED:

The system is currently working fine and makes backups over multiple tapes, though requiring manual intervention - i want to streamline the manual flow so that anyone can change a tape on receipt of an email.

Hello,

Unless the bacula-changer script has some particular
feature that you want, I would recommend using the mtx-changer
script that comes with the Bacula distribution (in the scripts directory)
and it is supported.  I have been using it for my backups since the
first day that Bacula handled autochangers, and I am currently
running it on Ubuntu 14.04 with an LTO-3 SAS drive.

Best regards,
Kern

Ah, i did not know that MTX would deal with controlling a human autochanger, i’ll have a look at how it works again. The bacula-changer script just seems to change how bacula handles a single tape device with no autochanger - making the process flow easier for a non tech human - ie, unmounts and ejects the tape - requesting the new one by name and then automounting and running the job when the correct tape is inserted.

Hello again,

Well, I know (or knew) nothing about bacula-changer, so given
what you write now, my advice may have been more a hindrance
than a help. mtx-changer cannot deal with humans.

Best regards,
Kern

Hello, Kern, TDNL Support: I already read about people that use mtx-changer script with manual tape drives, in order to achieve more "umount-eject-mount" automation (sorry: I don't remember the authorship / source). E.g.:

Device {
Name=DDS3
Archive Device = /dev/nst0
Changer Device = /dev/null
Changer Command = "/etc/bacula/scripts/mtx-changer %o %a %S"
Maximum Changer Wait = 3d
AutomaticMount = yes; # monte automaticamente a fita
AlwaysOpen = yes;
Media Type = DDS3
RemovableMedia = yes;
Offline On Unmount = Yes;
Label media = Yes;

Regards,
