Confused about Spectrum Protect replication compatibility
April 08, 2019 12:59AM
Hi all,

This page of the 8.1.7 knowledge center:

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEQVQ_8.1.7/srv.admin/r_adm_repl_compat.html

States:

Before you set up replication operations with IBM Spectrum Protect™, you
must ensure that the source and target replication servers are compatible
for replication.

In that table you will find

Source target
7.1.3 7.1.3 or later

So, I have a 7.1.3 server with a 8.1.7 target, that should be supported
according to the documentation.

However, it doesn't work, I can't even do a ping server:

09:00:30 713srv : ping server 817srv
ANR0454E Session rejected by server 817srv , reason: 7 - Down Level.
ANR1705W A ping request to server ' 817srv ' was not able to establish a
connection by using administrator credentials.
ANS8001I Return code 4.

So, I get a "reason 7 - Down Level" error.
Export server gives the same error message.

Does anybody know why this is happening?

Regards,
Stefan

I don’t think so, the q server output says that it is transitional.

Hi Stefan,

i assume the admin-id you are using during the "ping server" is running in "strict-mode" on the 8.1.7 instance, but not on the 7.1.3 instance.
This will cause the error message "down level".

Regards, Uwe

Uwe,

This was 100% it.
The "q server" output showed transitional but the admin was strict on the
8.1 system.
I did not realize that this would cause issues with a ping server and an
export server command.

I created a new admin, set to transtional and used the old servers dsmadmc
to login to the systems and now the ping server, export and replication
works just fine.

So thank you Uwe!
