VSS with Hardware Snapshots on File Servers

Microsoft VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) is great for creating point-in-time snapshots of file systems. So when the streaming backup window is long, VSS on file systems is great for ensuring all the files in a volume are captured in a consistent fashion.

Most good hardware snapshot engines can execute snapshots in under 10 seconds. My question is specifically related to the value of VSS in a hardware snapshotting environment.

In a file server environment, the chance of change during a 10 second hardware snapshot window is pretty small, so is there actually any value taking a VSS snapshot at all?
