[EMC-DataProtection-L] Odd error when backing up NMC console
September 15, 2016 05:53AM
Here's something new. I've started to get the below error, when backing up
my NMC database:

NMCASA:/gst_on_dctrman008/lgto_gst 69703:savepsm: Ignoring unrecognized
option 'a', use '-h' to see usage
NMCASA:/gst_on_dctrman008/lgto_gst 24050:savepsm: FAILED HY000 -697
[Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Error during backup/restore: XBSA-1.0.1
8.2.1.2.Build.764 2356 Wed Sep 14 07:04:26 2016 _nwbsa_is_retryable_error:
received a network error (Severity 0 Number -13): busy

Here's the odd thing, I haven't changed this client definition in
literally years. Yet it's only in the last week or so that it's started to
fail.
The client definition for this client has this, as the saveset:

NMCASA:/gst_on_dctrman008/lgto_gst

and the backup command is just "savepsm".

So where is this "unrecognized option 'a'" coming from? I don't see any
such option specified.

More importantly, why is it failing? Is it just a congestion sort of
issue, that I need to re-schedule for when the server is less busy?

[EMC-DataProtection-L] Odd error when backing up NMC console
September 22, 2016 05:10AM
Well, I have moved the start time for this group, and now it works (most
of the time, anyway). So the error apparently did come from the server
being too busy. This job saves to a Data Domain, and it was at it's stream
max (they recommend no more than 8, and I had 8 jobs all cloning from the
DD at the same time, cloning to tape). I would have thought it would have
just waited, but apparently not ...
