NetWorker 9 and media pool selection
May 02, 2018 10:59AM
Folks,

Now that I have just two months before NetWorker 8.2.4.11 is no longer supported, I'm investigating what upgrading to NetWorker 9.2.1.2 is going to do to me.

The issue I'm working on right now is that in 8.2 (and a lot of prior versions), I was able to assign a save group to multiple media pools and have the media pool that was used selected based on the level of the backup (so fulls were written to media pool A and everything else was written to media pool B). I see that is just gone in NetWorker 9. Has anyone worked out a way to achieve that end in NetWorker 9? (Or have I just missed something obvious in my [so far hurried] Reading of the Fine Manuals...)

Thanks,
- Frank

Frank,
I can tell you for sure that Networker version 9 is a totally different animal completely than any previous version. It took a good bit of tweaking to get it to behave like my other version 8 servers. I would for sure set up a test instance to familiarize yourself with it before using in production. I don't have to worry about the media pools here at Clemson We use AFTD's to write data into a ZFS filesystem and then just replicate that offsite to get our second copy. It works much better than the old way of writing the backup and then cloning and all that headache.
