OK, I need some help. I have these 2 old tapes, made on a different
Networker server than the one I am using today. Now, apparently I created
clients on my NW server using the same client ID as the clients on the
tape, but with a slightly different name.
SO on the tape is a client named "serverA.fq.dn"; I have a client called
"servera", with the exact same client ID (I probably created it that way,
so in case I ever needed to scan an old tape, I would already have a
client ID).
So of course, when I run "scanner -m", it says things like "client renamed
from serverA.fq.dn to serverA. That's to be expected. But what isn't
expected is that it's also then saying that it can't create the ssids it's
finding on the tape, and I can't figure out why.
EMC Tech Support tried to tell me it was due to the naming difference, and
I need to create a new client "ServerA.fq.dn", using the same client ID as
my existing serverA.
I tried to tell them you can't do that, client IDs are unique. They said
it would work. Naturally, it didn't let me create a differently named
client with the same client ID as an existing client.
(the fact that I had to tell Tech Support you couldn't do that inj
Networker fills me with no faith and confidence that this particular
person knew what they were talking about)
Ideas, anyone? Even if there are clients on the tape with a same client ID
but a different name than current clients, doesn't mean I shouldn't be
able to scan them right? I've got at least 5 other tapes in my media
library that I did this way, and they all worked.
But scanner won't create ssids for *any* client on these tapes, not even
ones that don't currently exist in my Networker server.
I think *that* is the problem, but I can't figure out why it won't create
*any* ssids.
Thoughts?
(I am doing the scan on a storage node. NW version is 8.2.4.3)
