MaximumSGList question
September 28, 2018 08:59AM
I have vague memories about this, but it's been so long ...

Here's something that seems archaic to me. I have to scan and recover from
some old tapes (made 10 years ago, 2008). I am scanning them, and I saw a
message flash past about changing the "MaximumSGList" value to 256K. So I
did so (see: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-17002 as an example).

But even after adding that key, when I do a "scanner", it's now
complaining that it can't set the block size to 262144, as max
configurable is 65536.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Here is the key (I added the
"DriverParameters", as specified in the KB. The other entry of
"DriverParameter" - note singular parameters - was already there). Since
scanner is trying to use 262144, obviously I set the parameter correctly.

Key Name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\adpu320\Parameters\Device
Class Name: <NO CLASS>
Last Write Time: 9/28/2018 - 10:56 AM
Value 0
Name: DriverParameter
Type: REG_SZ
Data: /MAXTAGS=64

Value 1
Name: DriverParameters
Type: REG_SZ
Data: MAXIMUMSGLIST=65

(the value of 65 is chosen, because the KB says: For 256 Kbytes: 256
Kbytes/4 Kbytes = 64. Add 1 for 65 (decimal) or 0x41 (hexadecimal). )

DUH. I should read those KBs closer. The MaximumSGList is supposed to be a
REG_DWORD value of the "Device" key, not a SZ value.

Still, that didn't work either. it;s still complaining. Here's hoping EMC
Support can figure it out ...
