Index question

I want to make sure I'm correct on this.

When a client index gets backed up, after the client's save set(s) have
completed, then everything in the index is backed up at the level of the
backup, not just the entries that correspond to the saves, correct?

So, for example, if a level 5 is being run on the client, and it backs
up, say, 37 GB then when the index is backed up, everything in the index
that's changed since the previous lower numbered backup for that client
index will be captured and not solely the entries corresponding to the
37 GB backup, right?

Also, if a level backup is run, followed by some incrementals, and then
another level backup, at the same level as the previous one, is run then
it will still go back to the full or lower number, right? Example: full,
incr, ... incr, level 5, incr, ... incr, level 5 then that second level
5 will go all the way back to the full, not merely the first 5, yes?

Thanks,

NetWorker backs up a client’s entire index. It doesn’t go through and back up only the entries that correspond to the objects backed up during the most recent backup.

IIRC, indexes are normally backed up at level 9.

If it did what you are thinking, if an index were deleted, NetWorker would have to restore a bunch of index savesets in order to construct a complete usable index.

What NetWorker does is that if files change and are backed up, those entries are added to the client file index, and the index is used to display a view of the objects at a particular point in them.

That is, unless NetWorker has changed radically in the past few years.

What you both are talking about was valid until NW 8.x.

Since NW 9.0 the indexes are backed up with the 'Server Protection' policy - once a day.
The benefit is that a potential larger backup of the CFI does not unnecessarily delay the whole workflow/action.

However, the backup level is a 'cumulative incremental', aka 'differential', actually a 'level 1' backup.
