Fast PCI bus's, you'll want multiple channels of it for other IO that must pass through the system

CPU should at minimum be quadcore or better. If you need to use multiple CPU's, so be it, but buy ...

Back tuning is fun! Repeat that about 1000 times before you go any further

That said MPIO needs multiple streams to get any benefit of performance. So you should be multistreaming your backups an ...

One thing to note, is that OpsCenter runs about 1000% percent better on Windows than on Solaris. A product manager ran a report from his laptop faster than a brand new Sun server running solaris.

I think VNX was meant, and not CNX. VNX is just the replacement to the CX lineup.

RMAN is your best option, you would not backup from the NFS mount, you would backup to where ever RMAN is configur ...
PostForum: Symantec NetBackup   Posted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 1:44 pm   Subject: Data Domain Question

I've got a customer with 30TB of SQL data, and a 30% daily change rate. He at best gets a 4.5:1 reduction

But I've also got another with a 4% daily change rate, that gets closer to 20:1.

It jus ...

Ops center is terrible. I could not sell that thing if you gave it away. All it took was one POC to show how bad it was.

EMC's DPA is not too shabby and it can report on more than just backup s ...
PostForum: Symantec NetBackup   Posted: Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:22 am   Subject: 10GBit on Windows backup server

Just tune the buffer settings accordingly... Other than that, as you reach greater than 50% of the bandwidth, expect your server CPU's to be at greater than 50% CPU usage alone...

Hope you have so ...

Well I see a few EXE's crashing causing a memory dump... For starters, run live update on the BE server, get all the updates. Reboot.

Then re-push out the remote agent on all servers, and reboot. ...
PostForum: HP Data Protector   Posted: Sat Jun 11, 2011 10:02 am   Subject: Does any use this forum, I very rarely see responses

Could be that because DP has such little market share, and HP has their own forums..

As a reseller, the only times I run into DP, is because of a large hardware purchase, where DP was more or les ...
PostForum: Symantec NetBackup   Posted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:30 pm   Subject: Using NetBackup for Desktops/Laptops backup

DLO is painful. Plain and simple. It's also a technology that Symantec hasn't updated in YEARS, other than improving on client compatibility.

I'd look elsewhere than DLO for backup. I also would ...
PostForum: EMC NetWorker   Posted: Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:20 pm   Subject: VTLs and backups

VTL's are a dieing technology. People much prefer to backup to disk, going further with backing up to a disk target that does deduplication.

Your 9TB's of Exch is nothing with modern dedupe applia ...

Daniel, I'm still unsure what you are talking about.

There is Image level backup (VMDK)
There is Guest level backup (Traditional agent in guest)

You keep referring to file level backup?

VC ...

You can also look into capacity licensing too. This way, you ignore all the client agents and App & DB packs and tiers, etc...

While capacity licensing is not cheap, the more you virtualize, t ...
