ARCserver 11.1sp3 compatiability with Novell 6.5sp8?
Author Message
Post ARCserver 11.1sp3 compatiability with Novell 6.5sp8?
I noticed CA's web site does not list ARCserve 11.1 SP3 as being supported on Netware 6.5 SP8. I know we have sites that are working fine with Dell servers and PowerVault 122T. However, that is not the case with the PowerVault 124T.

Without official support from CA, is there a way to make these backups more stable? I can't reschedule backup jobs through the Windows Manager without causing ABENDS on UNIQSVR.NLM. Every few weeks I have a backup failure because the software and changer stop communicating. At that point I have to stop ARCserve then unplug and plug in the SCSI cable then start ARCserve again just to restore normal functionality.

Hope to hear some good news from people that have successfully used this combination.

Thanks,
Robert

Check for a corrupt job &/or queue for the reschedule problem.

Sounds like a bus level problem for the lost connectivity problem.

End of Life has already been anounced for NetWare so it is past time to plan a migration.

Post EOL is a Known Issue...
Sadly, I'm a contractor but I do know there is a group working on migration plans. We've already moved to Groupwise 8 and integrated logins. I know this is a first step in cleaning up the servers. However, this could be several months away.

In the mean time, the jobs work fine but must be rescheduled through the console to prevent abends. I've gone a full month now without having to fill out a server restart report. All because I broke myself of the habit of doing the reschedules through the Windows ARCserve Manager. I hate filling out those reports so I'll probably leave this alone until the next time something major happens and then experiment with a new job.

I know it's simple to say EOL and blow it off. I don't have the luxary. I'm doing my best to research the problem and if nothing can be done, then we have to have another group read over my documentation and approve it for entry in a Known Error database so these server down reports do not impact any other SLAs that are being tracked.

An abend from rescheduling a job via a client seems kind of out there. Not sure of how much help I can be but willing to try, so if you want post the details of the abent message.

I'm not blowing anything off my saying EOL, just pointing out the reality that the time when Novell and CA will no longer put resources into it is fast approaching. After that sites still running NetWare are litterally on their own.
