Backup Central

I have a number of files that contain a .doc.bf file extension that were created several years (and servers ago). I have looked on line and the BF extension does not seem to fit with any backup programs.

I would greately appreciate any ideas on how to restore these files. (most are office files, word, excel etc.)

Two methods I can think of, but they work fairly similar to one another:

Method 1:
Copy the file to a UNIX or UNIX-like system and run the "file" command against it (e.g. "file somefile.doc.bf").

Method 2:
Open the file in a text editor to examine the file header.
