Differences between Quantum Dxi and EMC 1500/3000
Author Message
Post Differences between Quantum Dxi and EMC 1500/3000
We are looking at Dedupe disk targets for backup and have narrowed the vendors we are looking at down to 3 or 4. Two of the vendors we are looking at are the Quantum DXi series and the EMC 1500/3000 series of products. I know that the EMC products are based off of the Quantum technology but I'm wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages that one product offers over the other.

Thanks for any help.

The code is exactly the same; the hardware is different. They obviously chose different heads to run the software. Then EMC uses Clarion disk behind theirs and Quantum uses something else.

Is one better than the other? That depends on whether you like Clarion disk or not.

In this case, suggest compare with Overland and EMC and Data Domain. These 3 are of different engine... If I have the budget, I will go for DD. But still the price is kinda turn off.... ha ha Laughing

Actually, Overland's dedupe box has been pulled off the market for unknown reasons.

Yeap, they come back with something much stronger, Business Continuity Appliance.

Basically it's able to do dedup, replication, DR, HA. I have yet to get my hands on one... Let me test it out and give some feedback.

I don't know about stronger.  It's different.  And it's not dedupe.  It's CDP. They don't call it CDP, but that's what it is.  It's based on Inmage, which is a CDP product.
