So, the software I'm trying to find is one that is similar to FTSV. It was a great utility. File Transfer ??? Vax ( the last two I'm not sure of).
It was really great, because it would open a connection to a remote node, do a VMS block at a time, keep a count or high-water-mark, as I remember, it either waited for an ack, or ran asynch . The beauty of it was that if the network went down, the server went down, it didn't die. It just kept retrying, with an ever widening delta, till the other end came back up. Then it would restart at it's high-water mark.
One of the most useful pieces of sw out there. Now, you can still get a copy of it, but it only runs on OpenVMS . I have a lot of windows machine and would like to keep a centralized backup server.
I had run a backup on a local server, and was trying to just copy that file to a server in another room. Expecting it to go on for hours, woke up Christmas morning ( javascript:emoticon('
Is there any software like that? Fault-tolerant and restarable? Any example code in Perl, Java, Fortran, C, hell, even COBOL (I've been around a long time and can write in a lot of different languages).
If this the wrong forum, I apologize. If so, would you please point me to the right one?
Thanks
