HP Ultium LT04 Drive and Scalar 50

Post HP Ultium LT04 Drive and Scalar 50
Just wondering what kind of throughput are you getting with an HP Ultrium LTO4 Drive with a Scalar 50 (or even if you just have the drive)

Its currently taking our system 27 hours to write 900 Gb of data.. and I'm trying to find a reasonable benchmark out there so that i can try to isolate this problem

Thanks

SCSI or FC interface???

You have to know your backup files is those million files type also.

With reasonable compression (SATA drives?) you should achieve 900 GB in
approx. 6 hours using MSL6000 Ultriun 1840 FC attached tape library
utilizing LTO-4 media.

Yes we are using Fibre Channel

with LTO4 media we are currently getting 75-90 Gb/Hour

any suggestions on where our bottle neck could be ? The Tape Library is directly connected to a server (the server has plenty of horse power) everything in our enviroment in 1Gbps Ethernet.. ? Any Idea ?

I'm fixated on the fact that it may be a firmware\driver problem.. ie out of date or incorrect

Follow this link for some great troubleshooting techniques that are good for any backup software.

I went through the procedures/tests to find in the end it was a network issue. The results of the D2D, using another media server, etc., convinced the network team to investigate.
We currently use Backup Exec but will be migrating to Bridgehead software.
Good Luck,
Lance

Hello

Can i ask you what kind of operating system are you using?
Under windows i experienced a failure called "shoe shining".
It did the same as your failure is doing.
It happened with U320 SCSI, but as far as i know the FC is an
"emulated" SCSI as well.
