Post NDMP backup- Need to know the best way to protect the data
Hi All,

We have 2 Netapp filers in our environment. We have created CIFS shares out those for user Home drive and departmental shares

Currently there is no limit or quota for these shares.

There are snapshots( for 2 weeks) and snap mirror enabled for these shares. In addition to this we are also backing up these shares to tape by using NDMP backup technology. We are facing lot of challenges for backing up these shares are the volume of data is ever growing.

Would like to know the best possible ways to protect the data on these share. Do we really need to take the tape backup?

What would be the best backup techniques that we should follow here?

Thanks
Santosh

Post NDMP setup
Hi Santosh,

I will explain you our setup hope it will help you,

We have 1 netapp filer and tape is directly attached to it, and having four shares (Snapshot is not configured as it will eat lot of disk) we take backup on tape using NDMP technology.

As we are using NDMP technology which will help to minimise the network traffic, as we are backuping the large data.

Hope this will help you.

Regards,
Jickriya
