Post share one library with two differents backup application ?
Hello,
Is it possible to use two different backup software library with the same backup?
Example: we have a SCALAR I500 with 6 drives. We currently use time navigator (atempo) as backup software and LSM 6 to share drives between multiple catalogs.
How is it possible to share the control arm (robot) with another backup software if we are not using ACSLS?
Thank you in advance

Absolutely.

The i500 can create one partition per drive installed, so in your case, you'll have as many as six partitions. Each drive is then it's own library and control path, so each OS connected to that single drive will see the drive and a robot. This is true Hardware Partitioning, allowing you to chop it up however you want.

While most companies will standardize on the same backup application, media servers, clients, etc., some forget the advantage of having Netbackup on three drives, NetApp on two, and even a BRU system on that last drive. This library does not have to be driven by one brand of Backup application at a time.

The only caveat I would add to tape_jockey's response (which is spot on) is the I/E station. When you are moving tapes in and out of the various partitions, the I/E station becomes assigned to a specific partition. I would suggest that you do all of your tape movement using the front screen or the web interface on the i500. The various applications won't know about the other partitions and could cause a I/E station traffic jam.
