Post 3rd party Deduplication software that works w/BE 12.5?
My Internet research has netted me little to go on....... a potential trial download from HelpIT, but it appears to be pretty limited in what it can do anyhow. We DO NOT wish to purchase dedupe hardware at this point, as we have a 7TB SAS backup array (MSA-60) running RAID-6, and our TL-4000 library is also sufficient for us; however, we would like to add deduplication without having to change out hardware (Read=spend more $$$) Also our environment is a mixture of physical servers and VI3 Enterprise. We are in the process of getting VCB installed on the Backup Exec server in order to grab backups directly from the SAN (8TB iSCSI mirrored SAN run by SANMelody software)
I will continue to look around and update this post; hoping someone out there might have some info on this - Thanks! Cool

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the next version of BE has to have dedupe in it to be competitive with other companies.

It will probably be an agent option, and will be licensed much like their PureDisk Enterprise Dedupe software. license +capacity license structure.

Rumor has it, Winter of this year you'll see a new version...

Thanks Mitch! Yeah, we're sitting here scratching our heads wondering why BE does NOT have dedupe...... Question

We also looked at Netbackup with the Puredisk dedupe, but we're not that big ATM, our daily backups are ~500GB, probably closer to 400GB and our weekly/monthly is ~1.2TB with not a whole lot of growth expected.

So why dedupe? Why not? Business class storage is still very expensive and if we can solve a little with a less expensive solution, I'm game. Very Happy

@mitch808

Out of curiosity, where did you find this information? Is it speculation or facts?

Fact. There was a public announcement by Symantec about it, and there is Beta testing avail on Symantec's own forums.

Read tech news and stay on top of things. Razz
