AOFO cache or "static volume"
Author Message
Post AOFO cache or "static volume"
i get this error: AOFO: Not enough disk space on the device running the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) to create or increment the cache file.

i try to understand how does backup exec calculate the cahe size.
i try to backup server with 3 volumes (Disks):
C: - Capacity: 15 GB available: 3.75 GB
D: - Capacity: 121 GB Available: 28 GB
E: - Capacity: 68 GB Available: 6 GB

D drive is the drive beeing snapped (backed up), so from what i understand it locate the cache file into volume with the larger space available that is not been snapped which mean it locat it on E right?

but how much space available it needs on E for the cache?

Actually the snap is usually on the sam volume otherwise how would you backup just a c drive?

As to size, it's based on how much activity happens on the drv while u r backing it up.

"The location of the static volume can be automatically determined by the Use default option or a fixed drive can be specified (Figure 2). If Use default is selected, the static volume will be created on a drive that is not selected for backup. However, if all drives are selected for backup, the static volume will be created on all the drives at the same time."

this is from the article i read: http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/256762.htm

and my situation is that i back only drive D so it means it try to put the cache on another drive. it is realy bad that i don't know how much space the cache will need because the backup now failes for the 3rd time this week.

what can i do?

Hmm. Looks like I gave you some bad advice there. I was talking about the
way MOST of these products work.

I'm assuming this is Windows. Can you switch you using VSS instead?
