Post Backup Exec 10 Exchange DR
Hi,

New to this forum & site, but seem its a good stop for all our backup issues.

I need to create a Disaster Recovery site for our client. the following are their infrastrcuture:
Cluster Exchange 2003 (2 nodes + Disk Array)
Veritas Backup Exec 10 with Exchange agents

Backups are taken on LTO3 tapes on Daily Diffrential, Weekly Full, And Monthly Full.

Now They need to setup a DR site, with single server for hosting their Exchange 2003 email services, and Data resources.

As I am totally new to DR, i need to know how can i implement it, using the mentioned resources; the clients are on limited budget, with minimum downtime of atleast 2hrs.

Things I need to know is:
I standalone server for recovery of exchange 2003, should be on the same Domain forest?
How can I use backup tapes to restore the mailboxes on a exchange 2003?

Please guide me to accomplish this task; thanks

Minimum budget, and 2hr RTO does NOT compute. The lower the downtime, the higher the cost. 2Hr's is asking a lot, especially on Exch2k3.

Upgrade to Exch20k7 or Exch2010, and look into the CCR/LCR/SCR/DAG functionality. All of those are better than anything has to offer on BackupExec 10 from 2003.

FYI, the copy of BackupExec is OLD. Replaced by BE11d, BE12, BE12.5, BE2010, BE2010 R2, and in BETA now, BE2010 R3.
It's a 7+yr old product, that plain sucked. v9.1 was more stable, and so was 11d with all the SP's applied as is BE2010 R2.
