Catalog issue.

Post Catalog issue.
Hi there,

I just started this job 3 weeks ago and my boss wants me to go and inventory and catalog there old tapes from 08 and 09 and mark the allocated date on each tape so we can organize it.

I am new to Backup exec but have tried to take all the necessary actions to do this correctly. I have put in the tape and selected inventory, it comes back successful. I then chose to categorize it and it takes its time to catalog the data and that comes back successful. The issue i have is the allocated date does not change when i look in the device tab. My boss tells me to right click on the media under media label and select restore. When i do that it comes back Error "the selected media was not found in the catalogs. You must first catalog the media if you want to use it for restore operations."

I have done that already some tapes 3 times. I took a look in the forums already and someone said if you go in tools>options>catalog>uncheck "Use storage media-based catalogs" and redo the catalog. That does not fix the issue. I have also done a repair on backup exec, and also ran BEUtil and ran Rebuild Database Indices but that was also unsuccessful. So i am trying to find another solution. Hopefully someone there can help me on this, Not a good way to start a new career if you ask me.

Thanks

Another little trap which has caught me out before - in the restore selections view above the selection tree thing, there is a check box with a date next to it labled "Beginning backup date:"

Make sure this is unticked. If it is ticked, the restore job you are looking for may well fall outside this date and not be visible.

Good luck!
