Hi
we have a san on fc and using backup exec to make backup on tape.
Now we interest to buy a nas for develop backup to disk and using ndmp to make a tape backup.
i'm looking for some information:
- to make backup to disk i need to share a folder on nas, so i can't use the fc but lan i'ts true?
- which are the vantage to use ndmp and using it i improved my backup process?

You can do NDMP direct to tape, if your filer is on the SAN too. This is possible with BE12.5. I think you need just the SSO feature added on along with NDMP.

You can do remote NDMP, where the backup goes over the LAN, to the BE server, to tape. This is slower.

NDMP is generally faster than traditional LAN backups, as the file system seems to not be a bottleneck anymore.


Or you can just create a backup to disk folder that points to a UNC path. This goes over the LAN, not FC SAN fabric, you are correct.
