NAS & BackupExec 2010?
Author Message
Post NAS & BackupExec 2010?
We have an upcoming requirement for NAS storage (Image/pdf files, 2D and 3D) that must be separate from our SAN (VI3) environment; however, we still have to backup the NAS content. I've been reading that there are some peculiarities with BE and NAS and wanted to see what the folks here had to say about that. Thanks for any of your responses and thoughts

Elaborate on the "peculiarities," you mentioned?

If NetApp or EMC NAS, you can use NDMP.

If it's some cheap SOHO NAS that runs linux, and SAMBA offering CIFS shares, then there are some steps that need to take place, to make sure that BE can access the shares and backup the data. All that is needed is to create a user on that NAS, that matches the service credentials of the BE service account. Then grant that user access to the data you want to protect. Easy as pie.
