we have symantec backupexec installed on exchange sever 2k3

when i run a backup it starts off at a decent speed (425 mb/min) but as the backup progresses the rate slowly declines to 60's and below.

any idea what might be causing this? is ther esomething i can do to keep the speed constant?

What does the load on your exchange server look like during the time you are processing the backup job? Can I presume you're using the Exchange agent for this backup job? Are you running any other sort of maintenance tasks (mailbox cleanup wizard, automated archiving, etc) at the same time you're running your backup?

i was using the backup computer while it was backing up, if i leave it alone it seems to run okay (though it still drops from 400 something to double digits sometimes)

but i am having a new problem backing up our mailboxes now, IT is saying access is denied to certain mail messages (they are all junkmail)

the backup seems to go through fine but when it verifies these it fails.

Te corrupt mails in the mailboxes have to be either deleted by the user or archived to a PST.

Make sure the antivirus software folder is excluded from backup and check if Virus scan is scheduled the same time as backups.
