I'm looking for experiences using VCB or VDR backups with Backup Exec. Currently, we are only doing file level backups at the OS level, but I'm looking into the possibility of leveraging Backup Exec to backup the whole VM for DR purposes.
Have you been successful in inplementing either VCB or VDR backups?
Are there any clients that need to be purchases?

I have used VCB in the past with Networker and understand how that works as far as configuration, but have no experience with VDR. To me it looks like VDR is a disk-to-disk type backup, but I'm wondering if Backup Exec has the ability to write to tape?

Yes, BackupExec can use VCB and write to tape and/or disk. That was in BE12.5, last year.
It worked fine for me and I got okay speeds with it over some small and mid-range SAN's.

This year, BE2010 R2, is using vStorage and NOT VCB. It's a better solution ultimately, that replaced VCB.

Are you using the vStorage solution with the new BE? We are not on the new BE yet, and currently not doing VCB either, but need to do something.

Yes using the new BE2010 R2 with vSphere.

Hi!

Is there a way in BE to limit the number of drives to use for backup? I run 3 large jobs on Friday.. then duplicate them to tape, but since they finish almost at the same time.. they use both drives in the msl4048.. and speed is getting as low as shoeshine speed L.
