Backup Central

We've made a huge investment in replacing our hardware....but we are finding some shortcomings in BEX. Primarily the problem is the way BEX handles moving the VTL to tape.

We need to backup to the VTL, then duplicate that data to two sets of tapes. One set stays on site, the other offsite. We do a weekly rotation, so the VTL would need to have the space freed once the data is moved to tape. The tapes need to be usable as a point of restore/recovery for up to 6 weeks.

Any ideas?

All I can say is....when you figure this one out? Let me know.

I think this process is a bit more "involved" in BEX. But....we shall see.

I'm a Syncsort engineer. Later this year we will release support for VTL tape consolidation. One of the features will be the ability to define different retention periods for physical and VTL tapes.
You can check with your Backup Express Rep for details regarding the release date within the next few months.
