I've been running Amanda for the last two years and just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. Now Amanda doesn't work. I'm getting the following errors on boot in syslog
Nov 30 06:36:56 ubuntu xinetd[1353]: Reading included configuration file: /etc/xinetd.d/amanda [file=/etc/xinetd.conf] [line=14]

Nov 30 06:36:57 ubuntu xinetd[1353]: removing amanda
Nov 30 06:36:57 ubuntu xinetd[1353]: removing amanda
The contents of /etc/xinetd.d/amanda is
service amanda
{
only_from = 192.168.1.100 192.168.1.151
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = amanda
group = backup
groups = yes
server = /usr/local/libexec/amanda/amandad
server_args = -auth=bsdtcp amdump amindexd amidxtaped
disable = yes
}
The contents of the directory /usr/local/libexec/amanda contains only one directory called application, and the application directory is empty.
I'm thinking the best way to move forward is to reinstall from scratch? I hate to loose all my configuration files, etc.
