Shrinking static file

Post Shrinking static file
Hi,

Sometimes I will get a strange result from my server running VMWare Server:
? gtar: ./usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/solaris.iso: File shrank by 4694016
bytes; padding with zeros

It only happens occasionally (3 times in the last 44 backup runs) and the
shrinkage is always the same size.

I assume that the file is static. I don't have Solaris running as a guest
on the server. The file size is well beneath any possible file system
limit. And the file is read-only:
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 8105984 2010-05-26 10:42 solaris.iso

What could cause the apparent shrinking of the file? Has anyone seen
something similar with static files?

I am using Amanda 1:2.5.2p1-4 and tar 1.20-1+lenny1 on Debian Lenny.

Regards,

Johan
