2.1.0 not rendering correctly to 2.0.2
Author Message
Post 2.1.0 not rendering correctly to 2.0.2
Has anyone else had the issue of BackupPC 2.1.0 not looking as "pretty" as 2.0.2?

When I look at the new interface the graphic linking the web page to http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ is missing.

The frame down the left hand side is missing as well. The program functions well enought but the 'eye candy" that made 2.02 look impressive is gone.

Was this planned? What did I do wrong?

I am running on Slackware 9.1 with the Apache 1.3

The BackupPC_Admin is located in /var/www/cgi-bin

The icons, graphics etc are located in /var/www/backuppc

Again, when I installed under 2.0.2 it worked fine and it looked very impressive.

In /var/www/htdocs I have a html file which I use to pint ot the /cgii-bin/BackupPC_Admin. Yes I know that this is a hack but my partner and I couild not figure out any other way to make it work.

Apache runs as user "backup" [Yes, I use rather plain names]. I have set the config.pl to "*" to allow all users access after this issue I do plan to go back and make it work properly.

I have lots of stories about how BackupPC has saved my A** several times and we are pretty sold on it. But I would like to find out the "prettiness" issues before I install it at my next client site.

I had something like this happen to be. The problem was I used the same
config.pl from 2.0.x for my 2.1 install. The config.pl for the 2.1
series has new Options in it related to the look of BackupPC. The fix
was to us the default 2.1.x config.pl and change it to match my old one.

The CSS file is not being included. The CSS file contains most of
the eye candy and layout information. This is a new feature in 2.1.0.

You should find the 2.1.0 layout and navigation better than 2.0.2.

I am running on Slackware 9.1 with the Apache 1.3

The BackupPC_Admin is located in /var/www/cgi-bin

The icons, graphics etc are located in /var/www/backuppc

Ok. This is the same directory that the CSS file should reside.
Look in this directory and verify the file BackupPC_stnd.css
exists. Frankly, that looks like the wrong directory to
me since normally the apache DcoumentRoot is /var/www/htdocs,
so the icons, graphics etc should go in /var/www/htdocs/BackupPC,
not /var/www/backuppc. For example, Apache will serve the request
http://localhost/foo.html from the file /var/www/htdocs/foo.html
(if DocumentRoot is /var/www/htdocs). /var/www/backuppc is not
reachable by an Apache request.

Next, verify the setting for $Conf{CgiImageDirURL} and
$Conf{CgiCSSFile}. The URL for the CSS file is built from
these two settings. If DocumentRoot is /var/www/htdocs,
BackupPC_stnd.css is in /var/www/htdocs/BackupPC, then
$Conf{CgiImageDirURL} should be '/BackupPC' and
$Conf{CgiCSSFile} should be 'BackupPC_stnd.css'.

Next, verify apache can serve up a GIF, eg: the BackupPC logo:

http://localhost/BackupPC/logo.gif

Do you see the BackupPC logo? If so, then the CSS file should
also now work. If not, there is some mismatch between the URL,
the DocumentRoot setting and the location of the image/gif/css
directory.

In /var/www/htdocs I have a html file which I use to pint ot
the /cgii-bin/BackupPC_Admin. Yes I know that this is a
hack but my partner and I couild not figure out any other
way to make it work.

Your apache settings probably aren't quite right, but your
workaround is probably ok.

Craig
