2.1.0 restore problem - missing files
Author Message
Post 2.1.0 restore problem - missing files
Recently upgraded to BackupPC 2.1.0 (from 2.0.2). Needing to restore an
entire share (have been backing up via rsync). The restore appears to
go fine, but when we look, there are missing files. Just did a test...
the entire D:\ drive (this is a Fedora Core 1 backing up /restoring to a
Win2K box) versus a specific directory, and then compared what was
restored on that certain directory.

Full restore - D:\test 5,566 Files, 503 Folders,
105,116,016 bytes
Directory-only restore - D:\test 5,896 Files, 503 Folders,
114,167,000 bytes

So a clear discrepancy. I'm using that last full partial, but I've
gone back to the last two full backups, with similiar results (in terms
of 1 specific file being missing - I've verified that it is indeed
there, and on the D:\test ONLY restore, it properly appears.

Suggestions as where to look, or what to try next?

Thanks,
Greg

A backup of a linux box restoring to XP? I would look for files in
the backup set that only differ by case. (like 'test' and 'Test' and
'TEST')

Sorry, I worded that quite poorly. The machine running BackupPC is FC1,
and the host being backed up and restored to is Win2K. One of the files
in question is Default.asp, which (this is a dev box) there are sure to
be lots of files named like that, but should be in different
directories...

Just to clarify, I assume you selected just the "test" directory
for the "Directory-only restore". What did you do for the other
case?

How did you measure the file count and size stats?

And to ask the obvious, I assume you started with a clean (empty)
target each time?

Could you please email me the RestoreLOG.z files for each of
the two restore operations? No need to cc the list. I'd very
much like to replicate the behavior you see.

Craig
