Archive on multiple tapes
Author Message
Post Archive on multiple tapes
hello,

using the new archive feature to do an acrhive on multiple tapes,
what would I need to take care off, especially when no one is sitting next to the tapes waiting to put in a new one.
would backuppc just sit there and wait, give out any messages?

I saw, that I would be able to split the file, but still probably anyone can let me know.

About doing backups to tape periodically, I guess a command line command will do it with all the parameters, but
it seems I couldn't find it in the turorials, or did I miss that?

thanks
patrick

afio can do that *g*, *looking to Russel* :
OPTIONS
- < at > address Send email to address when a volume change
(tape change, floppy change) is needed,
and also when the entire
operation is complete.
Uses sendmail(1) to send the mail.

you can change the file BackupPC_archiveHost and let it do
something like that:
- split tar file
- backup file1
- send mail
- backup file2
- send mail
- ...

Has anyone poked through the afio code recently? I remember from
a long time ago that there are undocumented -I and -O options
that are used to split a pipeline across machines when you use
its system:archive notation. Maybe backuppc could pipe to
afio -O options... to let afio handle the near-infinite permutations
of options for compression/encryption/blocksize/multiple volumes,
buffering, etc.
