BackupPC_Admin error
Author Message
Post BackupPC_Admin error
Dear Lists,

I just installed the BackupPC and no matter how I installed (eg. put
under Apache's cgi-bin, put under backuppc's bin, shutdown Apache when
installing, etc), the BackupPC_Admin's cgi always show in red color and
I can't access it through web.

My system specs is Fedora Core 2, Kernel 2.6.7, Apache 2.0.49, Mod_perl
1.99. I run BackupPC under Apache's user which is 'www'.

Attached is the screenshot to help to picturize what I mean.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Han Lin

What is the web server error message from /var/log/httpd/error_log?

Red is simply eye candy showing that the cgi script is setuid.

The problem is that BackupPC_Admin is installed in BackupPC's bin
directory, not apache's CGI bin directory. You said you tried
that already, but you should double-check BackupPC_Admin is in
Apache's cgi-bin.

Do other CGI scripts execute correctly? Apache usually installs
a default cgi script called printenv. Does that run?

The FAQ has some other suggestions, but none look relevant to
your problem.

Hi Craig,

Thanks.

Yes, I tried to installed it under cgi-bin directory. But if I set
'chmod u+s BackupPC_Admin' the color is become red, and if I set it to
755, it's green again.

Nevermind, I will try to figure it out and read from FAQ myself.

Thanks for the reply.

Han Lin

This is self explanatory.

You have a syntax error in your BackupPC config file
/home/backuppc/conf/config.pl, line 1251. Look for a
typo (most likely missing or mis-matching quotes etc)
around that line.

You can backup local files directly using tar or rsync
without creating a share.

See http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/faq/localhost.html.

Yes, that's the problem. The error means it can't create a hardlink
in the pool to a new file below the pc directory. That's because
you have symbolic links in those paths. You need to put the entire
PC data directory on a single file system.
