BackupPC_link - sleep every n files?
Author Message
Post BackupPC_link - sleep every n files?
Hi,

I'm hitting some memory pressure bugs when BackupPC_link processes
relatively large dumps (~20G or so, and ~200k files, of which ~150k are
not existing files).

Is there any way to make BackupPC_link sleep for perhaps a second after
n number of files have been processed? A one second sleep every thousand
files would really free up the software raid device on which it sits.

This is a bug which should be fixed on rsync level i think.
Rsync should use a temprary file in which it puts such long lists.

I don't know how BackupPC calls things, but during the actual rsync'ing
it's fine. The *real* bug is in the kernel I'm using, which spends a lot
of time looking for free pages.

However, I thought a reasonable workaround would be if BackupPC paused
for a moment. Do you know how to make it do this?

There is no configuration setting for this. Changing the application
to solve an issue related to your kernel doesn't sound right.

In any case, you can readily make the change yourself by adding a
couple of lines of code to BackupPC_link.
