Post blackout periods
Running version 2.1.0

I’ve been having problems fully understanding the blackout settings, and subsequently continue to have machines that should only be backed up at night backed up during the day after the weekends, hence taking until mid week to reset the blackout period once again for these machines.

My current settings are:
$Conf{BlackoutPeriods} = [    {        hourBegin =>  7.0,        hourEnd   => 19.5,        weekDays  => [1, 2, 3, 4, 5],    },];

And
$Conf{BlackoutBadPingLimit} = 8;$Conf{BlackoutGoodCnt}      = 3;

If I set the good count too low, say at 1, the machines that were erratic in being on the network weren’t getting backed up consistently.

I’ve got laptops that need to be backed up during the day and PC’s that need to be at night. I’ve got individual config files for the laptops, I just want to keep the PC’s only going at night after the weekend ends.

I've been having problems fully understanding the blackout settings, and
subsequently continue to have machines that should only be backed up at
night backed up during the day after the weekends, hence taking until
mid week to reset the blackout period once again for these machines.

My current settings are:

$Conf{BlackoutPeriods} = [
{
hourBegin => 7.0,
hourEnd => 19.5,
weekDays => [1, 2, 3, 4, 5],
},
];

And

$Conf{BlackoutBadPingLimit} = 8;
$Conf{BlackoutGoodCnt} = 3;

If I set the good count too low, say at 1, the machines that were
erratic in being on the network weren't getting backed up consistently.

I've got laptops that need to be backed up during the day and PC's that
need to be at night. I've got individual config files for the laptops, I
just want to keep the PC's only going at night after the weekend ends.

Firstly, blackout only refers to when a backup starts. A blacked out
PC can still be running a backup during the blackout if it starts prior
to the blackout. Are the PCs actually starting backups between 7am and
7:30pm weekdays, or are they starting before then, but still running
during the morning?

Next, look at the host summary page for a specific host that you think
is not handling the blackout correctly. The first few bullets will
contain a string like:

Because HOST has been on the network at least 7 consecutive
times, it will not be backed up from 7:00 to 19:30 on Mon,
Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri.

This means that HOST should be subject to blackout. Or:

Pings to HOST have failed 18 consecutive times.

This means that HOST is not subject to blackout since the bad ping
count has exceeded $Conf{BlackoutBadPingLimit}.

Also, look in the log files to see when the backup actually starts.

Finally, you can try setting $Conf{BlackoutGoodCnt} = 0, which will
force a blackout for a particular host (or all hosts if it is in the
main config file).
