i have to delete old backups from the pool (the backuped server does not
longer exist). does anybody know how to do this?

I assume you want to completely remove a client machine (host) from
BackupPC. Just delete the per-PC directory (eg: /DATAPATH/pc/HOST).
BackupPC_nightly will later remove any unused pool files.
