Different backup modules on each client - Possible?
Author Message
Post Different backup modules on each client - Possible?
Is it possible to have a server backup different clients which have many different modules, when using rsyncd eg in conf/config.pl

$Conf{RsyncShareName} = ['host1_WIN_FILES','host2_WIN_MUSIC','host2_LNX_HOME'];

At the moment it errors as soon as it reaches a module which is not on that particular client, eg Unknown module 'host2_WIN_MUSIC’
It would be great if it just carried on, as I know that some modules appear on some clients and not others.

Should I be creating a config per host?
If not, in the conf/hosts file, maybe have an extra column which is config file name+location would be useful.

Apologies if I’ve missed something obvious on this one and its not a feature request but me not reading the documentation correctly.
Many thanks.

I double checked the documentation, then loaded the config.pl and ...

# Configuration settings can also be specified on a per-PC basis.
# Simply put the relevant settings in a config.pl file in the
# PC's backup directory (ie: in __TOPDIR__/pc/hostName).
# All configuration settings in the second, third and fourth
# groups can be overridden by the per-PC config.pl file.

I must be blind (I am partially sighted Smile ) not to have seen that right at the
top.
Note to self, must change the default 'commented out' text colour from light
grey to something a bit more prominent.

Apologies, + congratulations on a great project!

Thanks.
Steve'o.

Also, it is worth noting that files named '/etc/backuppc/<host>.pl' work
for this, and they are what I prefer to use. Smile
