Hello,

I just can't seem to get compression to work correctly. Cannot zip or compress. Double checked perl modules and requirements. I am able to generate the following with zipCreate

BackupPC_zipCreate -h andy -n 0 -s Documents and Settings -c 10 /perms.txt
error: deflateInit error: -2
Archive::Zip::Member::rewindData('BackupPC::Zip::FileMember=HASH(0x9543c48)') called at /array/backuppc/lib/BackupPC/Zip/FileMember.pm line 74
BackupPC::Zip::FileMember::rewindData('BackupPC::Zip::FileMember=HASH(0x9543c48)') called at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3/Archive/Zip.pm line 2277
Archive::Zip::Member::_writeToFileHandle('BackupPC::Zip::FileMember=HASH(0x9543c48)','IO::Handle=GLOB(0x99347ec)',0,0) called at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3/Archive/Zip.pm line 777
Archive::Zip::Archive::writeToFileHandle('Archive::Zi p::Archive=HASH(0x9944d40)','IO::Handle=GLOB(0x99347ec)',0) called at bin/BackupPC_zipCreate line 157
Can't write Zip file
-bash-2.05b$ error: deflateInit error: -2

I've installed 2.1.0beta1 on Fedora core 1. I've updated the relevant perl bundles from CPAN. I'm using rsynd to gather the backups. I can restore via rsyncd as long as $Conf{CompressLevel} = 0.

Thanks for any insight.

This must be some install problem. I know that doesn't help you much
since it sounds like you've tried to install everything fresh from
CPAN.

What happens when you manually build and run "make test" on Compress::Zlib?

Reinstalling Compress::Zlib allowed me to create zip files with BackupPC_zipCreate. Something had become corrupted.

XP Pro in a workgroup, 2.10beta1

I still cannot use $Conf{CompressLevel} >0 nor the zip feature. I believe this is relative to having the client in a workgroup. Expanding the file on the linux server shows odd permissions (mode 500 for My Documents) for some of the folders, although the owner is whomever unzipped the archive. Restore via rsyncd does not work with compression either. Without compression restore and tar work fine for the client system (restore is using a chmod option in a patched rsync).

So... I believe it comes down to security identifiers in a workgroup - some may be expected where none exist, perhaps it is rsync that induces the troubles as it is trying to be sophisticated. Maybe disabling "--numeric-ids --perms --owner --group" from the command line. This would wreck all permissions, however this may be acceptable as we're using ldap auth for the client to access the cgi interface and in turn their backups. I may play with that some more. Oetherwise, suggestions?

Thanks,

Andy
