error: no ping response; possible to supress?

Post error: no ping response; possible to supress?
I've got rsyncd working fine with backing up locally. Thought I'd go crazy
and try backing up over the net, so set up everything on a stable win xp
box, and now getting a little conundrum...

I set up the router on the client side to let port 873 through to a specific
local ip address. Tested it, per the rsyncd instructions, by running an
rsync from server and no probs -- get a real file list and all is cool.

So, I put the host name (blahblah.homeip.net) in hosts file, set up
permissions, did everything right so far as I can tell, but.... BackupPC
tries to ping the machine and then gives up.

With the router in place, a ping request isn't going to be answered. A
connection request on port 873 will, however. But BackupPC never gets that
far, just stops cold at the failed ping.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Todd

p.s.
Happily running BackupPC for almost 1 whole day now, with
75 G of pooled files -- and counting!

Set $Conf{PingCmd} to anything that returns a 0 exit status, eg:

$Conf{PingCmd} = '/bin/echo';

Isn't '/bin/true' canonical for this. Smile
