I've got a couple of problems using backuppc and winxp. The smbclient
seems to get connected but at one client I get an error message, that
nothing is for dump in the shared directory and on an other client
the 'ls'-command fails. BackupPC is running well with the Win2k-Clients
in the network.

You're going to have to be more specific about the error
messages, versions etc. Since Win2k is working I presume
it is some config problem with the shares on WinXP.

Please run smbclient manually and make sure you can login
and see the files you expect.

Also, see http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html.

Is the WinXP box home or professional edition. One thing I found with home =
edition is it has a "broken" admin (c$)
share. The box reports a c$ share but it is mysteriously broken (but I bet it =
becomes fixed when you pay for professional :O)
Another share can be created (I use backupC$ - it won't let you create a =
working C$, Ahh MS,bless) which fixed the problem.

Chris

The admin share is listed as a "feature" in XP pro.

Pro does have an admin share, but it's documented as being only for
internal use. You can't use it to share files, you must create a share
of your own.

It's kind of a stumbling block for people who are used to using the
admin share, but I think it's a good idea.
