Post ISO with backuppc 1.5 available
Hi !

An ISO image with BackupPC 1.5 and a demo version of the LBS (a low
level backup system similar to partimage), is available at

ftp://ftp.linbox.com/pub/lbs/iso/

This bootable ISO, WILL ERASE YOUR HARD DISK ! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !

The ISO is based on a Debian GNU/Linux Woody distribution. You should
read the README, to get more detailed install instructions but, in short:
1- Make sure you've got at least a 9GB hard disk (IDE or SCSI)
2- Make sure you're ready to erase EVERYTHING on that disk
3- Boot on the CD
4- Hit ENTER a few times
5- login as root/linux to change network settings (in
/etc/network/interfaces). The default IP is 192.168.0.2
6- Point a browser to http://whatyousetup
7- Login as backuppc/backuppc for the backuppc module
as root/linbox for the webmin module

The data partition uses Reiserfs over LVM to allow easy resizing.

Enjoy !

Ludovic Drolez.

Does anyone have any experience with this project (or ppart)?

I can't find much info on it. There is a web page with "latest news" from
2000. The mentions in the newsgroups seem to be product announcements.

The license is a demo/commercial?

This CD is mainly a DEMO CD of the LBS (manual here
http://www.linbox.com/en/docs/index.html, presentation here:
http://www.linbox.com/en/solutions/lbs.html ).

We provide BackupPC in this CD because BackupPC works so great that
every time we install it, our customers are more than satisfied, and,
because the LBS and BackupPC are complementary (low level vs file level
backup).

You can do *whatever* you want with this Debian based ISO:
- use it as an NFS file server (or samba also included)
- use the ready-to-run BackupPC 1.5 (2.0 will come soon)
- use it as a preconfigured Debian installation and add your own packages
- ....

But, if you want to use the included LBS, the LBS is a commercial
product: you can get a 2 clients license for evalutation, and for
10-1000 clients you need to buy another license.

Regards,
