NFS mount for backup storage
Author Message
Post NFS mount for backup storage
I am using backuppc to take remote backups of my servers and desktops
here at work. I have one debian machine that controls and stores the
backups, I also have a Snap Appliance 440 with 1TB of storage, I would
like to store the backups on this server. I cannot run backuppc directly
on the Snap Server, so I was thinking I would use the current debian box
to control the backup process, and just save the files to an NFS mount
off my NAS. I have this set up, but I am running into a problem. The
backup process runs fine, but no files are copied, only the directories
are created. In my error log for the test host, I see lines like this:

Can't link /var/lib/backuppc/pc/swordfish/new/fC/fbackup/attrib to /var/lib/backuppc/cpool/2/2/2/22297ba17667243067f786e3f2e2d56c

Any idea what the problem is here?

thanks
Jason

Hard links are supposed to work over NFS as long as the source and
destination are on the same filesystem. Do you have a single mount
point at /var/lib/backuppc?

actually no, I did my mount at /var/lib/backuppc/pc

as far as the file systems go, I am running ext3 on my debian box, and after some poking around in the snap server, it seems it is running on XFS...

Hard links only work within the same filesystem because they are just
additional names pointing to the same inode. The cpool and pc
directories must live under the same mount point.
