Not sending nightly e-mails

Post Not sending nightly e-mails
Hello,

I'm stuck trying to figure out why BackupPC (2.1.0) isn't sending out
nightly messages. One host has a failure (pink on the web), another
hasn't backed up in 3.4 days (yellow on the web).

The pertinent settings in config.pl are:

$Conf{SendmailPath} = '/usr/lib/sendmail';
$Conf{EMailNotifyMinDays} = 0.0;
$Conf{EMailFromUserName} = 'sak8 < at > eecs.cwru.edu';
$Conf{EMailAdminUserName} = 'sak8 < at > eecs.cwru.edu';
$Conf{EMailUserDestDomain} = ' < at > cwru.edu';
$Conf{EMailNotifyOldBackupDays} = 3.0;
$Conf{EMailNotifyOldOutlookDays} = 5.0;

LOG says
2004-07-12 01:08:14 BackupPC_nightly now running BackupPC_sendEmail

Running "BackupPC_sendEmail" does not produce any output; I think that
it's supposed to print out the e-mails it would send if run without -t.

When I add new machines, the "never backed up before" e-mail is not
sent.

Finally, I'm fairly sure that e-mail is working on this machine; rmail
and /usr/lib/sendmail both send messages off without a problem.

Your config looks correct: the user emails should be sent to
USER < at > cwru.edu, where USER is whatever is in the hosts file.

First look in the file $TopDir/log/UserEmailInfo.pl. You can
also display this from the CGI interface with the "Email Summary"
link in the navigation bar. Are any messages listed? If so,
then BackupPC_sendEmail thinks they were sent, and there is
some problem with how it is running sendmail.

If you run BackupPC_sendEmail with the -t option (don't forget to run
it as the BackupPC user) it will print the messages that it would send:

su backuppc
/usr/local/BackupPC/BackupPC_sendEmail -t

Are any messages printed? Do the To: addresses look correct?

Finally, I'm fairly sure that e-mail is working on this machine; rmail
and /usr/lib/sendmail both send messages off without a problem.

You should test this manually by running sendmail in the same way
BackupPC_sendEmail does:

su backuppc
/usr/lib/sendmail -t -f sak8 < at > eecs.cwru.edu
To: sak8 < at > eecs.cwru.edu
Subject: Test

This is a test.
^D

Does this deliver the email?

Hopefully with these tests you should be able to narrow down the
problem.

Craig
