Operation not permitted...?

Post Operation not permitted...?
Hi folks--

I apologize if this is a stupid newbie question, but I've read the docs and
searched the mailing list archive to no avail. I installed BackupPC-2.0.2
and everything seems OK, but when I try to start it, I get the following
error in the log file:

2004/4/28 20:53:54 Reading hosts file
2004/4/28 20:53:54 Added host 192.168.123.101 to backup list
2004/4/28 20:53:54 unix bind() failed: Operation not permitted

Is this a configuration problem? Permissions, maybe? What operation is not
permitted? I'm running as user backuppc, and I can load the BackupPC-Admin
page in my browser (it gives me an error that it can't connect to the
BackupPC server).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gregg

I've heard this reported once before. This happens when BackupPC
tries to create a unix-domain socket in $TopDir/log/BackupPC.sock.

Perhaps it fails because this directory is actually an NFS mount?
I'm not sure if unix-domain sockets work on NFS mounted file systems.

Alternatively, perhaps the directory doesn't exist (meaning BackupPC
doesn't have the right permissions to create it) or it has the wrong
permissions.

Aha! It's not an NFS mount, it's a vfat-formatted drive. I'll bet that's
the problem. I meant to reformat that drive as ext3 and forgot to in my
hurry to install BackupPC. I'll reformat and reinstall and see if that
cures the problem. Thanks for your help!
