recd signal alrm failure - why ???

Post recd signal alrm failure - why ??? 
I had below happen twice today, but not seen it before. What would ALRM
imply, alarm ?? of what, and why ??

It was using rsync to backup up a linux server.

2004/3/21 18:00:02 Started full backup on linuxserver-a (pid=19017, share=/)
2004/3/21 22:41:24 Backup failed on linuxserver-a (received signal=ALRM)

Post recd signal alrm failure - why ??? 
I would say that you need to increase $Conf{ClientTimeout} to a bigger
value. Especially seeing that your backup is going for so long. Try
making it a (lot) bigger number.
